    Very, very well-said! That’s the kind of reality we all need to understand and account for when designing systems, products, expectations, etc. The lack of that truth ultimately leaves security still locked in the box we each walk away from every night. Great thoughts!

    I agree with Steve in that most security professionals do not articulate the collective purpose of security. Preventing bad things from happening or denying the access of date to those that do not need it is somewhat the purpose of security. I would present that the purpose of security is that of the management of risk and vulnerability. With all the end points that need to be addressed in the environment today, i.e. BlackBerrys, Laptops, IPad etc. we need to find acceptable methods in securing the in-band and out of band assets.
