UN warns on password ‘explosion’

December 4, 2006

A BBC Article today reported a warning from the International
Telecommunications Union that the number of passwords and logins web users need makes
it inevitable they will re-use phrases.

The Union called on regulators and businesses to find better ways for people to identify themselves to websites.

Regulators?  Yuk!  Who, besides me, thinks that is a terrible idea?

Businesses can select from dozens of viable privacy protecting authentication techniques.  Smart cards, tokens, digital certificates, photo selection, fingerprint readers, the list goes on.
